A wide range of scintillating colors, shades and hues to give your mosaic artwork a stunning appearance.
Sicis tesserae are created by melting silicon and minerals at very high temperatures to achieve a smoother and brighter surface with fuller colors. The gemlike colors are the result of glass recipes using 70% precious minerals and 30% silicon (most glass tile uses only 30% minerals resulting in weaker colors). The result is simply the world's best material for making mosaic masterpieces.
In 1988 Sicis reinvented and revived traditions of glass mosaic in Ravenna, Italy, home to some of the greatest examples of mosaic art in the world. Sicis combines traditional techniques of manufacture and values of handmade craftsmanship with constant innovation and exploration.

A love of quality, technique, hand skills, tradition and luxury infuses all of Sicis' work. The patience and perfectionism baked into the glass rivals the focus of any mosaic artist who uses their material to create artworks.

Natural interaction of minerals, temperature, climate and other fluctuations of the environment produce subtle variations within each color that extend the range of colors even further. Each tesserae is unique and each sheet of tiles is in some ways more of a blend, encompassing a tight range of related tones and color.
Sicis is the best glass I've ever used for mosaic. It cuts cleanly and easily with standard tile nippers. You can use either side of the tile because it's flat on both sides. Sicis glass mosaic tile is practical due to the ease of use and wide range of applications. Sicis tiles are designed to endure high traffic commercial settings with reliable performance, indoors or outdoors. With proper installation, Sicis tiles can withstand high or low temperature extremes and shifting seasons.
Sicis is luxurious for having the widest range of colors and finishes and the highest quality. Sicis is better suited to subtle shading than any other Italian mosaic tiles, allowing for nearly photographic realism. Over 400 colors with 16 different surface finishes are produced by the company in their Ravenna facility.
Shortly after I began my Anatomy Set in Stone project, I had a rare opportunity to buy 14 tons of Sicis glass mosaic tile— 81 colors totaling 11,839 square feet. My plan at the time was to build a life-size circus in glass mosaic and I was pretty darn excited about it!
If I had kept to my original plan of doing only 12 of the anatomical mosaics I would already be working on the glass circus mosaics. But I added 10 more mosaics to the project! At this rate, I probably won't get to use the glass tile for another 8-10 years! Better it should go to someone who can use it now.
After working exclusively in stone for so long, I think I will probably continue to work in stone. I've invented and refined new techniques that I'm really excited about and I have ideas for new mosaics in stone I am eager to explore.

Rachael first turned to mosaics for their enduring permanence, but it was the bold and brilliant colors of mosaic glass that truly captivated her. Her early mosaics explored pop culture images, using tesserae to imitate the Ben-Day dots of four color printing.
She soon became enamored of subtler shading and began working with natural history subjects rendered in glass or stone.
In 2015 she began her Magnum Opus, Anatomy Set in Stone, a series of 22 life size mosaics that replicate Bartolomeo Eustachi’s 16th Century anatomical engravings in marble, stone and precious gems.
After spending nine years and over $100,000 out of pocket on Anatomy Set in Stone, she is selling her stock of Sicis glass mosaic tile to finance completion of the project.

The mosaics are composed mainly of marble, travertine, onyx, limestone, blue and pink quartz. The veins and arteries are lapis lazuli and red jasper. The eyes are black garnet and star ruby, sapphire or tiger eye.
Each mosaic is four by seven foot and presents the figures at life size— viewers can stand before them and see anatomy as though looking in a mirror.
The original mosaics are not for sale— they will tour as a traveling museum exhibit. Thirteen mosaics are now finished with the fourteenth underway, bringing the project to a bit over 50% complete.
